Recruitment & Retention
The Vancouver Division Recruitment & Retention (R&R) Team has a variety of resources and support available to member physicians. Aside from networking and development events, R&R can assist you in career and practice development, particularly for new-to-practice and mid-career family physicians, and practice closures and retirements, particularly late-career family physicians.
Please visit Work in Vancouver to view our locum and permanent opportunities. On behalf of clinics in Vancouver, we are looking for family physicians to fulfill numerous locum opportunities, which vary in duration, flexibility, and location. On top of this, we can assist family physicians looking to join a practice permanently and build a patient panel. Depending on what you are looking for, we will provide you with guidance and introduce you to the clinics that fall in line with your preferences and requirements.
If you are looking to join a clinic permanently, there are many important considerations before committing to longitudinal primary care. For example, different types of remuneration, specifically the new NTP PCN Contracts. Please visit NTP PCN Contracts for more information.

Types of Remuneration
A variety of remuneration models are available to physicians practicing in Vancouver as outlined below.
Remuneration Type | Description |
---|---|
NTP PCN Contracts | Visit our NTP PCN Contracts webpage for more information |
Fee for Service (FFS) | A payment model utilized by the majority of walk-in and family practice clinics in Vancouver. In the FFS model, the family physician is an independent contractor who bills our public insurance plan (Medical Services Plan (MSP)) to each service provided. There is a separate billing code and rate associated with each service negotiated between the Ministry of Health and Doctors of BC. Under this model, family physicians who pay out a predetermined portion of their billings to the clinic, which helps cover clinic costs, such as staff, leasing, and supplies. |
Salary | The most common salary positions are hospitalists and emergency positions administered by health authorities. |
Sessional | The sessional model is mostly utilized by Community Health Centres (CHCs), which utilizes an hourly or session rate of payment. A session is defined as 3.5 hours of service. Rates are defined by an agreement between the Ministry of Health and Doctors of BC. This type of payment model is generally used for more complex patient populations or those appointments needing more time than an FFS model could reasonably accommodate. |
